About Tweed Heads
TWEED Heads on the Far North Coast of NSW is the hub of the Tweed Coast. It has the conveniences of a major city but has kept its coast al village lifestyle.
The regional city is on the NSW-Queensland border where locals and tourists flow seamlessly between the two states.
The Gold Coast Airport is just 4km north of Tweed Heads, making the area an ideal destination for tourists and southerners looking to relocate but still have access to an airport.
There are more than a dozen schools in the area, both public and private. The NSW Government is on track to opening a new $723 million hospital by 2023 at Cudgen, 14kms south of Tweed Heads. Â
The Tweed Shire Council, Tweed Chamber of Commerce, Destination Tweed: 2050 Collective and The Tweed actively assist business owners and tourism operators.
There are restaurants, cafes, clubs, accommodation, and a casino for those who enjoy fine food and entertainment.
Tweed Heads has one of the most popular surf breaks on the Tweed Coast – Duranbah Beach – and plenty of white sandy beaches along the Tweed River.
Families are often seen perched on the riverbank at Boyds Bay and The Anchorage Islands to take advantage of the river’s calm, crystal clear water.
The Tweed’s regional icon, Wollumbin (Mount Warning), can be seen from just about anywhere in Tweed Heads.
Wollumbin is the volcanic remnant of an ancient shield volcano and is a place of great spiritual significance to the Bundjalung People.
After the volcano’s collapse, the southern hemisphere’s largest caldera was formed, the Tweed Valley. The river winds through the Tweed Valley and enters the Pacific Ocean at Tweed Heads.
The Valley’s mineral-rich volcanic soil produces tropical fruits and vegetables which are widely used by local restaurants and cafes.
There’s also an abundance of locally caught seafood which can be bought fresh from the back of a trawler at the Tweed Marina.
The Tweed Shire has a population of 98,382, however, according to the Tweed Shire Council, that number is forecast to grow to 132,221 by 2041.
